Temperature Afghan 2017

This year I'm working on a project I've been wanting to do for years, a temperature afghan. A blanket, that shows the temperature changes of an entire year.

I was prompted to finally start my temperature afghan project by a crochet-a-long hosted by Susan of Felted Button, the facebook group for the CAL can be found here :D The requirements for this CAL is simple, make a temperature afghan using one of Susan's patterns. I already had a few Felted Button patterns in my collection, and for this project i chose to use the Flying Colours pattern, using the colour of that day's high for the first two rounds, and using the colour of the low for the square's border colour, that connects all the squares. It's a very enjoyable pattern that I've now had memorised for a long time, it takes me a few minutes to whip up a square, join, and weave in the ends :)

Here's my chart, I've already used every colour other than the coldest! I'm using my fave yarn for blankets, Stylecraft Special DK, and these are my colour pegs :D

I've actually changed my palette slightly since i started, I've changed the same colour twice, re-doing multiple squares... But I'm happier with the end result, even though, I'm not completely happy with my choices. I will know better next time.

In this photo you can actually see all three greens I've used for the 10-12 colour range! The majority is my current shade, Bright Green. Then there is the chunk in the middle that is still in the original shade, Pistachio, a shade that i really do like, but decided it really doesn't fit into my brighter colour scheme. The last colour is in the middle of the 3rd and 4th squares of the 4th row up... :P I replaced much of the early pistachio with this Grass Green, then re-did it again, and I'm almost done with that! I have 38 squares to re-do, in addition to every day's new square... Why do I do this to myself?!

So there it is, my temperature afghan, more than half way through, happyish. The British island weather is getting on my nerves a little bit, up and down all the time! I'm jealous of others in the group who have nice gradual colour changes! But there we go, I do still live in a lovely place and I shouldn't complain really, it's lucky i'm not making a blanket that shows the rain in Wales, would be all blue :P Now really I just want it to be done now!
